The DSc. in detail:
The study content in detail:
1. The study script
As part of the program, you will engage with a study script focused on the fields of Economics and Management. This script, provided through the university's e-learning platform, covers a wide range of topics within business administration, economics as well as offering insights into its many diverse subfields. Designed to encourage independent thought and in-depth understanding, the study script includes a series of carefully structured questions. Each question must be answered in a free-writing format, with a minimum of half a page per response.
The study modules include the following content:
1. Marketing Management and Strategic Management
The concepts and tactics used by companies to find, draw in, and keep clients are examined in the Marketing Management module. It helps students build the skills necessary to design and carry out successful marketing strategies by covering subjects like pricing strategies, branding, digital marketing, consumer behavior, and market research.
The long-term planning and decision-making procedures that businesses employ to gain a competitive edge are the main topic of the Strategic Management module. It gives students the skills they need to assess intricate business environments and develop strategic solutions by covering subjects like industry analysis, business models, corporate strategy, innovation, and leadership.
2. Managerial Competencies
The study module Managerial Competencies focuses on developing the essential skills and abilities required for effective leadership and management in diverse organizational contexts. It is designed to enhance both the technical and interpersonal skills of aspiring managers, ensuring they can navigate complex workplace challenges and lead teams toward achieving organizational goals.
The module begins with an introduction to core managerial skills, such as decision-making, problem-solving, and time management. Students learn frameworks and techniques to analyze situations, prioritize tasks, and make informed decisions under pressure. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking and the ability to evaluate alternatives in dynamic environments.
Another key focus is on communication skills, including both verbal and non-verbal communication.
The module also addresses team leadership and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of building and leading high-performing teams. Students learn how to motivate team members, delegate tasks effectively, and manage diversity within a team.
Strategic thinking and planning is another important area covered in the module. Students are introduced to tools and methods for setting organizational objectives, aligning resources with goals, and creating actionable plans to achieve long-term success.
By the end of the module, students will have developed a comprehensive set of managerial competencies, enabling them to lead effectively, communicate clearly, and make strategic decisions that drive organizational success. This module prepares students to excel as confident and adaptable managers in today’s dynamic business landscape.
3. Managerial Economics
The study module Managerial Economics is designed to equip students with the knowledge and tools needed to apply economic principles in managerial decision-making. The course focuses on bridging the gap between theoretical economics and practical business applications, helping students understand how economic insights can be leveraged to solve complex business problems.
A key component of the module is demand analysis and forecasting, where students learn about the factors that influence demand and how to measure elasticity.
Another important area is production and cost analysis, which delves into the relationship between inputs and outputs in the production process.
The module also examines market structures and competitive strategy, covering the characteristics of various market types such as perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, and oligopoly.
In addition, the module explores the influence of macroeconomic factors on managerial decisions. Students gain an understanding of key economic indicators like GDP, inflation, and interest rates, as well as fiscal and monetary policies. The module emphasizes how these factors affect the business environment and international operations, including the impact of exchange rates and trade policies.
2. The dissertation
In addition to completing the study script, you are required to write a dissertation of at least 60 pages. This dissertation allows you to explore a topic of your choice, providing flexibility to pursue research that aligns with your interests and academic goals. Unlike the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program, the Doctor of Science program permits you to select a dissertation topic that is only partly related to economics. This means your research can also address aspects from other academic disciplines, fostering an interdisciplinary approach. If you have already written a text of high quality, you may be able to use it as a foundation for your dissertation, saving time and enabling you to build on your previous work.
The program is designed to offer maximum flexibility to accommodate your individual needs and schedule. The study script and dissertation work are completed entirely in English, and there are no mandatory lectures, exams, or fixed deadlines. This structure allows you to progress at your own pace, making it an excellent choice for professionals balancing their studies with other commitments.
Through this program, you will deepen your understanding of economics and management while also cultivating your research skills, ultimately producing a dissertation that reflects your unique academic and professional perspective.
There are no fixed lectures, exams or dates.
